Capital Vision Care St. Albert is on Liberton Drive and has cared for families and seniors who have called St. Albert home for generations. From a child's very first eye exam to comprehensive senior eye health and dry eye care, patients do not need to drive into Edmonton.
Its optometrists are Dr. Taylor Parenteau, a St. Albert resident for 15 years, Dr. Peter Roed and Dr. Travis Turgeon. Eye exams are offered in English and French.
Services include comprehensive eye exams, eye disease and diabetic eye exams, myopia management, contact lens fittings and same-day care for sudden eye problems. My visit with Dr. Roed today was excellent. Reception staff were friendly and helpful, and the visit was efficient. Dr. Roed addressed the concerns I was having, while taking lifestyle factors into consideration when creating my care plan. He was flexible during the exam when my baby needed tended to and made recommendations for timing his first eye exam. I’ve happily booked him in to be seen as well.
Love Capital Vision Care! Dr. Roed is great! He’s friendly, very intelligent, and an all around great doctor! He takes time with you and actually explains things, and he has a really good technique for determining which lens are best for you. If you’re looking for a new eye doctor, would recommend! The staff at the front desk are also great! The same lovely woman (I think Hannah) has helped me choose all 3 of my pairs of glasses over the years and I’ve loved them all. Everyone is so helpful, friendly, and cares. 10/10!
Myself and my husband have been going to capital vision care for years not only because they take such great care of our eye wear needs which I think are top shelf…they also have the most amazing people taking care of us! Always smiles to greet us with friendly hellos and conversations along with light humour when needed. This is rare and very valuable in our world. Go see for yourself:)

Very professional from the start.with three counter staff. Zoey was exceptional in her positive pleasant manner and assistance in measuring my frames. Dr. Parenteau took extra time to listen and to demonstrate the benefit of different corrections. This was the best experience I have had with an optometrist office.
Appointment was taken promptly. Staff were polite and helpful and welcoming. Optometrist dr Taylor Parenteau was very easy to talk to, she explained things after my questions, It was a great experience and I would ways go back.

Do I need a referral for an eye exam?
No. You can book directly with Capital Vision Care St. Albert for a routine eye exam, a contact lens exam, a dry eye concern or many urgent eye concerns. Book online or call (780) 460-9673.
What does a comprehensive eye exam include?
It may include a health and vision history, prescription testing, eye pressure screening, retinal imaging, focusing and eye coordination checks, and a detailed look at the front and back of your eyes. Most exams take about 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the testing needed, whether dilation is required, and whether you are also being fitted for glasses or contacts.
Does Alberta Health Care cover eye exams?
Alberta Health Care (AHCIP) insures one routine eye exam per benefit year for children under 19 and seniors 65 and older. Since February 1, 2025 those exams are only partially covered, so a co-pay applies. Routine exams for adults 19 to 64 are not covered by AHCIP, though many extended health plans cover them.
Do you bill my insurance directly?
Yes. Capital Vision Care direct bills most major insurers, including Alberta Blue Cross, ASEBP, Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Green Shield, Medavie, Quikcard and AUPE, along with many other private and employer plans.
Can I be seen for an eye emergency?
Yes. Same-day appointments are available for sudden eye pain, redness or vision changes, so you do not need to wait in the ER. The optometrists assess, diagnose and treat many urgent eye problems and can prescribe medication. For a chemical burn, a penetrating eye injury, sudden complete loss of vision or severe trauma, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
Is there parking, and is the clinic accessible?
Free on-site patient parking, with accessible stalls close to the entrance. The clinic is wheelchair accessible, with a barrier-free exam room. Eye exams are offered in English and French.
When should my child have their first eye exam?
Children should have their first eye exam between 6 and 9 months, at least one exam between ages 2 and 5, and an exam every year from ages 6 to 19.
