What does direct billing mean?
The clinic sends your claim to your insurer for you, so you pay only what your plan does not cover instead of paying in full and claiming it back yourself.
Where does this information come from?
From each clinic’s own website, read by us and re-checked from time to time. A clinic that names an insurer appears under that insurer. A clinic that says it direct bills without naming one is shown in a separate list, because we cannot tell which insurers it works with.
Does this mean my plan covers the visit?
No. Direct billing is about how the claim is sent. What your plan covers, and how much, depends on your own plan. Check your benefits booklet or call your insurer, and confirm with the clinic when you book.
Why is a clinic I know missing?
It may not say on its website that it direct bills, or it may not name your insurer. If it does bill your insurer, ask the clinic to update its listing on ClinicFinder.ca and it can be added.
Is this connected to the insurance companies?
No. ClinicFinder.ca is independent. The names Manulife, Sun Life, Canada Life, Green Shield and Blue Cross are used only to describe which insurers a clinic says it bills.
Can I use this for walk-in clinics?
Walk-in clinics and family doctors are covered by provincial health plans, so direct billing to a private insurer rarely comes up. This tool covers care that private plans usually cover, such as dental, physiotherapy, chiropractic, massage, mental health and eye care.
