Capital Vision Care Windermere is a full-scope optometry clinic at Currents of Windermere in southwest Edmonton, serving families from Ambleside, Keswick, Chappelle and Glenridding. Extended evening hours on Wednesdays and Thursdays make it easier to fit an eye exam around school, work and activities.
The team of six optometrists includes Dr. Jacqueline Chan, who is Canadian and American board certified and a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, Dr. Ruby Mangat and Dr. Tapasya Ranjan. Eye exams are offered in English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Punjabi, Hindi and French.
Services include comprehensive eye exams for all ages, children's eye exams, myopia management, dry eye treatment, contact lens fittings and same-day care for sudden eye problems. I had a great experience at CVC Windermere today. I had been going to the Southgate location in the past but thought I’d try this one out since it was so close to home. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful from the moment I walked in. I really appreciated the welcoming and happy feeling. The tech who did my pretests was so friendly and they have all the tests set up in a nice assembly line that is really efficient! Dr. Chan was very friendly and pleasant to deal with during the remainder of the exam. She answered the questions I had and gave me suggestions/recommendations based on my concerns and results. I’m really happy with the full experience and will be back for glasses/exams in the future. Thank you!
It was my first visit to Capital Vision Care at Windermere yesterday for an eye exam. I had a wonderful experience from the technician who did my pretests and to Dr Shih who was very professional and patient in answering my questions. What impressed me was that I did not have to wait long for the examination! The place is very bright, clean, welcoming and all the staff were very friendly.

She was professional, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain every step of my eye exam and dilation test, making the entire process comfortable and stress-free. Questions patients ask
Do I need a referral for an eye exam?
No. You can book directly with Capital Vision Care Windermere for a routine eye exam, a contact lens exam, a dry eye concern or many urgent eye concerns. Book online or call (780) 229-3937.
What does a comprehensive eye exam include?
It may include a health and vision history, prescription testing, eye pressure screening, retinal imaging, focusing and eye coordination checks, and a detailed look at the front and back of your eyes. Most exams take about 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the testing needed, whether dilation is required, and whether you are also being fitted for glasses or contacts.
Does Alberta Health Care cover eye exams?
Alberta Health Care (AHCIP) insures one routine eye exam per benefit year for children under 19 and seniors 65 and older. Since February 1, 2025 those exams are only partially covered, so a co-pay applies. Routine exams for adults 19 to 64 are not covered by AHCIP, though many extended health plans cover them.
Do you bill my insurance directly?
Yes. Capital Vision Care direct bills most major insurers, including Alberta Blue Cross, ASEBP, Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Green Shield, Medavie, Quikcard and AUPE, along with many other private and employer plans.
Can I be seen for an eye emergency?
Yes. Same-day appointments are available for sudden eye pain, redness or vision changes, so you do not need to wait in the ER. The optometrists assess, diagnose and treat many urgent eye problems and can prescribe medication. For a chemical burn, a penetrating eye injury, sudden complete loss of vision or severe trauma, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
Is there parking, and is the clinic accessible?
Free on-site patient parking, with accessible stalls close to the entrance. The clinic is wheelchair accessible, with a barrier-free exam room. Eye exams are offered in English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Punjabi, Hindi and French.
When should my child have their first eye exam?
Children should have their first eye exam between 6 and 9 months, at least one exam between ages 2 and 5, and an exam every year from ages 6 to 19.
