Chain pharmacies and independents
Most Canadians live near a chain pharmacy. Some chains are owned by a single company (Shoppers Drug Mart, and the pharmacies inside Walmart and Costco stores). Others are banners: networks of independently owned pharmacies that share a name, buying power, and a loyalty program, such as Pharmasave, I.D.A., and PharmaChoice.
For patients the difference is small. Every pharmacy in Canada is licensed by its province and run by a registered pharmacist, and what a pharmacist can do (renew a prescription, give a vaccine, treat a minor ailment) is set by the province, not by the chain. What does differ is hours, dispensing fees, and how busy the counter is, which is why ratings and hours are worth checking store by store.
Across the 4 chains on this page, 2,012 stores have Google ratings and 1,795 show Sunday hours.

Questions about pharmacy chains
Can I fill a prescription at any pharmacy chain?
Yes. A prescription from a Canadian prescriber can be filled at any licensed pharmacy in the province where it was written, whatever the chain. To move an existing prescription, ask the new pharmacy to transfer it; they contact your old pharmacy for you.
Are prescription prices the same at every chain?
No. The drug cost is often similar, but dispensing fees vary between chains and even between stores of the same chain. Warehouse stores such as Costco are known for lower dispensing fees, and in most provinces you do not need a membership to use the pharmacy. Ask the store for its fee before you switch.
What can a pharmacist do besides fill prescriptions?
In most provinces pharmacists can renew many ongoing prescriptions, give vaccines such as the flu shot, and assess and prescribe for some minor ailments. The exact list is set by each province, not by the chain, so the same service may be available at every chain in one province and none in another.
Which pharmacies are open on Sunday?
1,795 of the 2,204 chain locations listed here show Sunday hours. Each store page shows its hours for every day of the week; check it before you go, since holiday hours can differ.
What if I need medication after the pharmacy closes?
Some stores stay open late or around the clock. Use the hours on each listing to find one, or call 811 in most provinces to speak with a nurse. For a medical emergency, call 911.
Why is my local store not listed?
ClinicFinder lists the stores it has verified details for, and some locations are still being added. If a store is missing or its details are wrong, the pharmacy can claim its free listing and correct it.
